Call for Volunteers

WordCamps are an enormous amount of work, all done through the kindness of volunteers. For your time, we give you a free ticket (including afterparty admission and all swag items), a snazzy volunteer t-shirt, and our undying gratitude. We need help in the following areas:

Registration (4-8 needed)
Are you a morning person? Show up an hour early and help the check-in process run fast and friendly, so we can all start on time. You’ll also get first crack at the pastry table!

Room Runner (8 needed)
Organized and looking for some cardio? Room runners make sure the speakers have whatever they need, like water, power cords, video adapters … if something’s missing, they run (or walk) to get it.

Room Emcee (4 needed)
Comfortable speaking in front of a group, but only for less than a minute? This is the job for you! As an MC, you’ll say a few words to introduce each speaker — and make announcements if we need to get the word out about something in real time.

Room Video (4-8 needed)
Rather watch the presentation on a screen? No, not on the iPad of the person in front of you. On the viewfinder of the video camera at the back of the room! We shoot video of every talk and send it in. Eventually, it winds up on wordcamp.tv.

Happiness Bar (4-8 needed)
Do you know the difference between a filter and an action, or an em and a rem? Come help answer questions and help show off the vaunted friendliness of the WordPress community. Some say it’s our best feature!

Swag Swiper (2-3 needed)
Our great sponsors often provide us with some small items for attendees to take home with them. Stickers, pens, notebooks – that sort of thing. We need someone to make sure the swag table is well-stocked and when the dust settles at the end of the event, that everything is packed up for the next WordCamp.

Social Media Maven (1 needed for each room each day. Can be split into shifts)
We’d like to have someone to post and share notes from the sessions as they happen. If you’ve got the thumbs for it, you can help moderate the @wordcampstl social media accounts with your wit and wisdom.

Welcome Wagon (2 to 3 needed each day)
Helps get our attendees to where they need to be throughout the day. Knows the lay of the building and points folks to the correct rooms and venues. Answer questions about how to get ot the afterparty, which is most important. Assists registration by organizing folks by last name so we don’t have anyone missing the opening sessions!

Note: Actual wagoneering skills not required.

Lunch Leader (2 to 3 people each day)
A renaissance hunter-gatherer this role helps folks find their way to substance. Before lunch starts you’ll help wrangle people toward where lunch is hosted and help those with dietary needs find their lunch orders. This job requires making grumpy faces at those folks trying to eat a lunch they didn’t specify. 🙂

Pho toe grapher (2-3 needed)
Are you a snappy snapper? We’re looking for a few folks to help document our event for future generations of WordCampers. It would be great to capture the attendees and speakers throughout the day to share on the site, social media, and for promoting future WordCamp St. Louis events.

  1. I’d love to volunteer doing video and/or photos. Please send me info on how I can help. I shoot stills and video with a canon 6d and video with a Lumix GH2.
