Going “green” while (Word)Camping at #WCSTL

It’s important to stay hydrated at any event. Some of you may even need a pick-me-up caffeinated beverage in the morning. We just wanted to share with you that our local coffee connoisseurs, Kaldi’s is a sponsor, and will be providing coffee (both fully caffeinated and decaf) for the whole day during WordCamp St. Louis.

Fun fact: if you need to, you can even walk to the original Kaldi’s location and back during event’s lunch if you need to.

Kaldi’s and Washington University has a commitment to sustainability, so we’re encouraging you to bring a re-usable travel mug with you to WordCamp to enjoy the delicious brew.

We will have some disposable cups available, but they’re small (only 8oz’s.) If don’t want to miss out, but you’ve forgotten your mug at home don’t fret, Kayak’s (part of the Kaldi’s family) is only a 10 minute walk from WordCamp and they sell mugs.

Getting to WordCamp

If you plan to come by car, train, bus, bike or horse you might need to check this out…

First off, for those of you are going to be using MetroLink, MetroBus and riding a bike to get to WordCamp, WUSTL has a brochure with a map that includes locations of MetroLink stops, MetroBus stops, bike racks, and more here.

What is WordCamp?

We’ve received a few questions asking “What is WordCamp?”. For those that are curious, directly from the WordCamp Central site:

WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 75 million sites on the web.

WordCamps come in all different flavors, based on the local communities that produce them, but in general, WordCamps include sessions on how to use WordPress more effectively, beginning plugin and theme development, advanced techniques, security, etc. To get an idea of the types of sessions typically seen at WordCamps, check out the WordCamp channel at WordPress.tv.

WordCamps are attended by people ranging from blogging newbies to professional WordPress developers and consultants, and usually combine scheduled programming with unconference sessions and other activities. For more information on common WordCamp elements, read about what to expect at a WordCamp.

WordCamp St. Louis 2016 will be held May 14-15 at Washington University. Tickets are $30 and cover both days. The first day will be filled with two tracks (Developer/User). The second day is our Community Day where we’ll give folks an opportunity to learn about how they can give back to the St. Louis and WordPress community. We have some great speakers submissions this year. Attractive, eloquent, funny, knowledgeable, and smart folks from across the St. Louis community will be joined by WordPressers from various corners of the globe to bring you the best WordCamp in St. Louis.

The goals of any WordCamp – but you know, ours especially – is to bring together great people and foster a community where everyone is free to learn and share. Any WordPresser – blogger, designer, developer, small business owner, writer – is welcome. We know you’ll have a great time.

Get your tickets while they last. We had over 300 attendees last year and sold out a week in advance. This year we anticipate the same!
