Time to learn a little about Sam Hermes, who will be speaking on\u00a0Submitting an accessibility-ready theme to WordPress at this year’s WordCamp St. Louis.<\/p>\n

NILE FLORES:<\/strong> When did you start using WordPress?<\/p>\n SAM HERMES:<\/strong> I started using WordPress about 5 years ago for my freelance projects, and now I used it every day at WashU.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n NILE FLORES:<\/strong> What are a few takeaways that attendees will get from your talk?<\/p>\n SAM HERMES:<\/strong> I hope that attendees will see that they can create and submit a theme of their own, and that the process is fairly straightforward. I also hope that I\u2019ll be able to demonstrate the importance of the accessibility-ready tag, and how a little bit of extra work can go a long way to having a high quality, accessible theme.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n NILE FLORES:<\/strong> WordPress is turning 15 years old. What would you like to see in the future for WordPress?<\/p>\n SAM HERMES:<\/strong> I\u2019m very excited for what Gutenberg means for the WordPress project, and can\u2019t wait for it to shift the way we think about making themes and plugins. It opens up completely new possibilities that we haven\u2019t had previously, and we\u2019ll be able to build so many new experiences on top of it.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n NILE FLORES:<\/strong> “And just for funsies”, over the past few years, the WordPress community has seen the rise of the cute Wapuu character?
