What would you like to see in the future for WordPress?

KIP RASKE: One of the great things about WordPress is the documentation that is out there. I worry as WordPress gets more complex with more emphasis on the customizer and Gutenberg that the documentation will not be able to keep up. Not just how to get things set up, but why to do things a certain way and what the best practices are.

NILE FLORES: “And just for funsies”, over the past few years, the WordPress community has seen the rise of the cute Wapuu character? Heard of it? And if so, what’s your favorite Wapuu? (Wapuu Reference: https://wapu.us/ )

KIP RASKE: I collect Wapuu stickers if there are some, though I don’t travel very much so they mostly are just St. Louis themed. I liked the Rosie the Riveter Wapuu that was being given out at WCUS this year. My journal usually has a Wapuu or two on them it (see attachment).

NILE FLORES: What is your favorite area of the WordPress admin?

KIP RASKE: My favorite area of the WordPress admin are pages that I have made myself. Conveniently WordPress makes creating settings pages easy.

NILE FLORES: What are the top three WordPress plugins that you believe every WordPress user should have installed?

KIP RASKE: Every WordPress user, that is difficult because each site has such drastically different needs. I don’t think that any Plugin is mandatory for all sites. At WashU we use Advance Custom Fields, Event Organizer, and Formidable Forms quite a bit, but for my personal blog I really just have Akismet.

Want to learn more about Localization and Internationalization, then buy a ticket, and come out to WordCamp St. Louis, on May 12 & 13, 2018, to see Kip’s talk.

Our new speaker interview is Kip Raske.
